Drive to Decarcerate WI

People are tired of WI Governor Tony Evers ignoring our incarcerated citizens as the COVID 19 infection rates in our WI prisons soar. On Thursday, June 18, 2020, many arrived from all over the state to join WISDOM/EXPO and their statewide affiliates in the “Drive to Decarcerate WI” caravan to the Governor’s Mansion in Madison.

WISDOM activists in 137 cars from around the state, carrying more than 200 people, drove to Madison, gathered at the Labor Temple on Park St, then drove to the Governor’s Mansion.  They succeeded in  attracting attention and media coverage.  Most importantly Gov. has agreed to meet with David Liners, state director of WISDOM, a statewide organization seeking justice and common good in Wisconsin, Jerome Dillard, State Director of EXPO (Ex-Incarcerated People Organizing) and Rev. Willie Briscoe, president of MICAH  (Milwaukee Inner-City Congregations Allied for Hope) to discuss decarceration in Wisconsin.

Governor Evers has a unique opportunity to take unprecedented steps to get WI’s overcrowded prison population #’s down to save lives & stop the spread of COVID 19 in our prisons. This is authority the Governor is granted by our state constitution & cannot be litigated or undermined by the State legislature.
